New to Baba Is You? This guide explains what the game asks of you, what the first board looks like and a few steps to get moving.

What is Baba Is You?

This version of Baba Is You is a fan-made remake of the original rule-changing puzzle game, and it runs free in your browser on Pixelsprout. You move a small character around a pixel-art grid in single steps. Words sit on the board as blocks, and phrases such as BABA IS YOU, FLAG IS WIN, WALL IS STOP and ROCK IS PUSH describe how things behave. On the first board I saw, you push rocks out of the way and head for the flag.

First steps

  1. Click Ok, Play Now and wait for the loading bar to finish, then click the game once so it can read your keyboard.
  2. Look at the board and read the word blocks to understand what you control and what the flag does.
  3. Use the arrow keys to walk up to the line of rocks. Moving into a rock pushes it one square if the space behind it is free.
  4. Push the central rock sideways to open a gap, then walk through toward the flag on the right.
  5. If you box yourself in, use the UNDO or RESTART button shown on the screen.

Who it's for

It suits people who like thinking through a puzzle slowly and do not mind a bit of trial and error. If you want fast action or a timer, this is not that kind of game.
