New to this version of Getting Over It? Here is what is on screen, what you are trying to do and how the first minute of a run usually goes.

What is Getting Over It?

Getting Over It is a slow, physics-based climbing game. You control the Scratch cat, sitting in a brown flower pot, through a long hammer that follows your mouse. This Pixelsprout version is a fan-made Scratch remake: its start screen reads Getting Over It, Scratch edition with Griffpatch, and everything you climb is made of oversized Scratch code blocks, such as yellow when clicked blocks with green flags. The goal is to climb as high as you can, with blue water waiting below the blocks.

First steps

  1. Wait for the game to load, accept the notice if one appears, then press New Game. A quick click may not start it, so hold the click until the timer appears.
  2. Before you climb, move the mouse in a slow circle and watch how the hammer swings around the pot.
  3. Hook the hammer head on the nearest yellow block and pull back to drag the cat onto it.
  4. Work across the low pile of when clicked blocks. There are gaps between some blocks, and you can pass over a gap without falling.

Who it's for

Players who enjoy a stubborn precision challenge and can laugh off losing progress, and anyone who knows Scratch and wants to see its code blocks used as climbing terrain.

What the start screen shows

The menu shows the title, the line Scratch edition with Griffpatch, a New Game option and toggles for Sound Effects and Commentary. A World Record time appears in the top right.

Once you press New Game, the menu goes away and a run timer takes the place of the record time in the corner.
