These tips come from a real session of Moonbloom on Pixelsprout. I cleared the first evening, First dew, with 270 points and started the second, Second leaf. Everything here is what I saw on the 6 by 7 planter while dropping seeds.

  1. Use the dim ghost circle before you drop. It marks the exact cell your seed will land in, which saves you from placing a seed one column off.
  2. Stacking three matching seeds in a single column is the easiest merge to set up. I did it twice in First dew, and both times three gold seeds turned into one green sprout.
  3. Check the now and next icons in the header before each drop. Knowing the following seed lets you leave a gap where it will complete a group of three.
  4. Matches count by edges only. Line seeds up side by side or on top of each other, not corner to corner.
  5. Look for drops that start a chain. One placement in my run showed a chain x2 label and pushed the score up to 270, far more than a single merge gives.
  6. Watch the thin bar under the evening name. It fills as you score, so it tells you how close you are to finishing the current evening.
  7. Do not rush. I never saw a timer, so you can take a moment to plan each drop.

Moonbloom rewards planning over speed. Read the next seed, use the ghost circle, and build groups that can set off chains, and the first evening goes by quickly.

How merging works in practice

Each seed falls to the lowest empty cell in the column you pick. When three or more of the same plant touch by an edge, they grow into the next form. In my session, three gold seeds became a single green sprout, and the score jumped from 0 to 36 with a small points popup and sparkles.

Green seeds then started showing up in the now and next slots, so the merged form becomes something you can match again. A merge that leaves new matches touching can keep going, which is how my chain x2 happened.

What I did not get to see

The help card mentions rain, pebbles and a moonbloom. It says rain upgrades the top plant in a column, pebbles block a cell until a neighboring merge cracks them, and a moonbloom shatters them. None of those showed up in my first two evenings, so I cannot give tips for handling them yet.
